Requiem MVG
"It has been 14 years since the loss of what was my closest friend. Late night movies, wrestling around the house, and generally raising hell is what my brother and I were best at. We grew up being given the same set of advantages, rules and guidelines for our lives. While I found safety and security in rule following, Michael was more of a rebel and he expressed himself through the arts. His inner most thoughts were communicated through a range of mediums whether he was painting, drawing, shattering a glass table to make a mosaic, tearing apart clothes then redesigning them, or his final act: creating jewelry out of precious metals. That is just what he did, he made things.
These endeavors I watched him take on day in and day out and I never really thought much about how talented he was or how we saw the world. To me he was just my big brother and my protector.
I shared one of his journals with my fellow creators and we decided to deconstruct and recreate these drawings using the medium we know best. The images would be used as a conversation piece around the subject of what can be lost to addiction as well as a celebration of the artist himself."
